I adore using up my scraps to make all sorts of patchworky things and today I thought I’d share a few ideas for projects that use scrappy pieces.

First up is my patchwork glasses case pattern.

This pattern has two sizes of patchwork pouches and they can certainly be used for many things other than glasses. But if you want to use them for readers, sunglasses, or other glasses both the lining and the exterior are quilted so they are pretty well padded.

The pattern also lists exactly what size to the cut the patches and where to place them. Which makes this pattern patchwork beginner friendly. That being said, it’s not exactly beginning sewing riendly. There are lots of layers to sew through which can be tricky so if you are new to sewing maybe this one is for later on in your sewing life.

Or how about making a tiny patchwork vessel?

This pattern from Ann Wood Handmade looks fun and perfect for the smaller bits of fabric. If I were making one of these vessels, I’d use blue fabric scrap pieces like these or these. Blue patchwork is one of my favorites and always turns out amazing pretty much no matter what blues you decide to use.

If you want to go even smaller, maybe some textile beads are calling to you as your next project?

I have this pattern from Victoria Gertenbach and it is great. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and she shows a few ways to make them. The finished beads can be used for textile jewelry, embellishments, toggle buttons, zipper pulls, drawstring cinchers. etc.
