A bolt of a super soft, chunky 14 wale corduroy in a lovely light blue-grey color arrived not long ago and my first make with it is a Basket Bag.
This was my first time using corduroy to sew a Basket Bag but other people have made these bags in this cozy fabric. Sew Ray Me has made and sold many, many of them made from corduroy fabric.
The one pictured above is size 2 in the pattern. It obviously makes a nice yarn/project bag but the bags are great for stashing all sorts of other stuff.
Here are some of the things I stash in my basket bags: Socks and tights, scarves/hats/gloves, bathroom clutter (so many tubes and bottles!), mason jar lids, wash cloths, rags and other cleaning supplies, fabric scraps, batting/muslin/flannel scraps, ribbon and other trim, cat toys, and probably some other things that I’m forgetting about!
I think the most creative, but very, very specific thing someone has made these bags for is for storing frozen food in a chest freezer. If you’ve ever had one of these freezers you know they are amazing for storage but the food gets buried under more food quite quickly and you need to separate things out and store them in groups. There are plastic bins you can buy but the cold ruins them and sometimes quite quickly. So making freezer organizing bags from fabric is kind of brilliant!
